I realize that nursing is more about algorithms and politics, and the common goal is always patient outcomes. Safety from handwashing to infection control is a continuum of change and improvement.

Dealing with Covid 19 and the threat of death has put safety in front of everyone’s mind. Challenges facing health care today are in our face. Nursing shortages, burnout, call-offs, crew turn-over, and decrease leadership have affected all of our lives in one point or another.

Moss et al. (2016) describe burnout syndrome (BOS) early in the 19070’s as signs and symptoms that materialize for people with no history of psychological or psychiatric conditions.

Taking the time to take care of ourselves and assess our situations are very important for our future health.

Professional roles for nurses are expanding daily. More tasks are put upon us, and the legal ramifications are real. Nurses are being put into situations that could jeopardize their license and we feel like we are stuck advocate for our positions. Having the ability to speak out and promote change is in the future, and I am personal relieved.

Patient center care has to be the core of nursing. This is what we are here for. We all know improvements have to happen in order for us to be able to spend the time necessary for good outcomes.

Every person deserves that. A collaboration and communication of interdisciplinary teams are vitally important. All members on the same page working towards a common goal would be a dream.

Just having a computer system communication with each other would be a dream. Having a complete history of a patient could change healthcare. Evidence- based practice has been around for a while. However, revisiting the practices that were set years ago has not.

Change is not always bad. A lot ​‌‍‌‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‍‌‍‍‍​of the time we need to improve the practice to improve patient outcomes. May time I hear a nurse say they do not know why we do this way. It could be done better.

Self-assessment and improvement have to happen often. I am a person that has to improve no matter how hard it is constantly. Honest dialogue of quality and improvement needs to be addressed weekly and sometimes daily. The patient’s safety is at hand.

Oh, computer systems. I know that most of the computer’s program is not being used to full compacity. The only training, we get is what we need to know. There may be ways of saving time or connecting one page to another? Training classes need to happen.

Social, economic, and demographic nursing practices are ever-growing. People of underprivilege nature can benefit from telehealth. Having the ability to connect in any way is so important. Social nursing, I am still trying to understand. I have some family that is changing names and gender.

Talks are going to happen and I am looking up information for help. I believe social media and text messaging have helped nurses connect. The networking that had to be face to face is now on your phone. In addition, coming together for community events could be helpful.

My eyes have been open to opportunities and I have learned to expand my thinking. I cannot say that the material has changed my practice. Nevertheless, it changes my thinking about others when I see situations in my community. I have always known that many people are victims of circumstances.

However, how to help is opening up my thinking in my mind. I feel like I need to be more community- based.
