NRSG 10039 Rnfa Theory 4
Questions:
Reflect on the role you will play as a RNFA. Consider what responsibilities you will have and which of your responses would be different from those of the perioperative nurses?
As the RNFA:
- How would you respond to uncontrolled hemorrhage in the surgical field?
- What would be your immediate priority?
- What actions would assist the surgeon?
- What actions would hinder the surgeon?
- What knowledge wou[d you apply in responding to this situation?
Answers:
1.
Uncontrollable hemorrhage refers to the severe blood loss that can even cause death of the patient. It may cause due to anticoagulant therapy, damaging of blood vessels, hemophilia and as a result excessive blood lose takes place (Johansson et al. , 2014). As a RNFA, As a part of this process I can use damage control resuscitation that is a combination of catastrophic bleeding, breathing, airway, and circulation paradigm along a with various clinical technique. Damage control surgery is another process that I can use.
2.
As a RNFA, my first priority would be to stop the hemorrhage to stop the blood loss.
3.
The RNFA is the first assistant to the doctor in the operation theatre. Along with the surgeon, as a RNFA I would be directly responsible for providing care to the hemorrhagic patient. I would assist surgeon by supplying equipment, helping in bleeding control, stitching the wounds. Along with this, if any complication would arrive such as lowering of blood pressure, I would inform the surgeon so that proper measures can be taken.
4.
During the surgery, if there is sudden drop in heart rate, blood pressure, problem in breathing, surgeon would face difficulty in treating the patients. In addition, abnormality in vital signs, pulse rate, respiration rate can also be a hindrance to the surgeon (Johansson et al., 2014).
5.
In those situation, I would try to help the surgeons by providing life-saving drugs that can help to normalize the heart rate, blood pressure, and breathing rate.
