Answer:
Introduction
As per the World Health Organization (2017), dementia is a syndrome which progressively decreases the ability of a person to process his/her thoughts by deteriorating the cognitive functionality. The reports of WHO, determined that more than 50 million people are affected with dementia within which 60 to 70% of the cases are identified as Alzheimer’s disease (World Health Organization, 2017). As per Hessler et al. (2018), dementia is a health concern which not only affects the social, cognitive, psychological and physical aspects of the patient but also disrupts the carer’s values, their family and society. This is because the social stigmas and barriers prevent the proper identification and treatment of the condition. Hence, it has been chosen as the clinical area of interest for this project.
Conceptual Reflective Framework
Reflection is the tool using which professionals could assess their abilities their strengths and weaknesses so that by processing any critical situation, they can improve their skills. While working with dementia patient, to improve my care process I will utilize the Gibb’s reflective cycle as a reflective frame work as it will help me to process my feelings and analysis of the situation, and then will help me to find out the conceptual solutions to improve my abilities as a dementia care nurse (Husebø, O’Regan & Nestel, 2015). This framework has six stages such as description, feelings, evaluation, analysis, conclusion and action plan that outlines the complete framework of the reflective process (Karlsson et al., 2015).
Learning objectives
Learning objectives, which will be obtained through this project, are as follows:
- After this project it will be easier for me to understand the aspects of care which could be more beneficial for the patients affected with dementia and I will be able to implement my thinking abilities and understanding while working with such patients.
- I will be able to evaluate the care approach I used while caring for dementia patients will be able to utilize my insights and experiences to modify the care process depending on the situation.
Human resources:
As human resources, all the nursing professionals who have more than a year experience of caring for dementia patient will be involved. This is because they will be able to share their experiences and care approach and with amalgamation of their care method, it will be easier to address each aspect of care.
Literary resources
All the research articles with evidence of intervention to treat patients with dementia will be included in the project so that through those resources modification and implementation of care strategies and approaches appropriate for every patient affected with dementia could be obtained.
Other resources
A community hall for meets and discussions, access to internet to gather information and senior nursing staff and psychology experts so that understand patient and their mindset becomes easier for nursing professionals. This will be ensures by seeking permission and grants from the healthcare facility supervisors.
Proposed method
To complete the project, all the staff and professionals will be asked the discussion and conversation sessions so that transfer of ideas and skills could be obtained. Further, posters and pamphlets will be distributed within the facility.
Proposed timeline
These sessions will be organised for 48 hours or 2 days and each day will comprise of 4 sessions. These sessions will be 45 to 60 minutes long.
