Safety, use of technology, or communication in nursing
Medical technology is abroad field that plays an important role in sustaining the health of the patients. Nowadays, information technologies are being used in pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, medical device and equipment. Technology permeates all the dimensions of critical care and enhances the communication and monitoring of the patients (Funk 2011). It aids to get vital information and facilitates the communication process in health care. Electronic health records are used nowadays to for the documentation of the patient records. New and the developing diagnostic technologies are being used nowadays for treating the urinary tract infections. However, with the growth of the information technologies comes the privacy and the confidentiality issues. It has to be remembered that urinary tract infections are often associated to sexually transmitted diseases, which can lead to several social stigmatisation (Topol and Hill 2012). Hence, it is important to conserve the integrity and dignity of the patient by respecting the privacy of the patient. Furthermore in order to address the needs of the patients, the nurses should have substantial knowledge about the use of the biosensors and the microfluidics for improving the diagnosis of the UTI. Some of the disadvantages related to the use of technology is that more nurses will require training in information technologies that can interfere with the availability during the work or loss of data due to unauthorised entry or power disconnection. Although it saves much time, but the probably reduces the chance of face to face interaction giving rise to confusion.
