Provide a teaching plan (avoid using terminology that the patient and family may not understand).
Answer:
My approach to the care
Cardiomyopathy discusses about the diseases of heart muscles. Cardiomyopathy is the condition that affects the heart as the primary disease which may lead to the heart failure of the patient (Puckett, Shapiro & Goodlin, 2013). The approach to the care that I would recommend for this situation would comprise of medication and the nutritional therapy. The patient had cardiomyopathy and his heart muscles were weak therefore strengthening of the heart muscles can improve the condition of the patient. The patient should get all the medications that are necessary for his condition. Beta blockers or ACE inhibitors can be given to the patient here because in this case cardiomyopathy has led to the congestive heart failure. These medications could be useful to stabilize the patient to a certain point so that the other therapeutic measures can be started (Kosiborod et al., 2017). The next portion of my approach would be to confirm that the patient should follow a proper diet plan and begins some sort of exercises when the patient is healthy enough to perform. Furthermore, home based care programme which consists of weekly home visits by the nurses and the clinicians could be also useful to the patient.
Treatment plan
A change in lifestyle of the patient may help to manage a particular condition that causes the cardiomyopathy to the patient. The patient should be physically active and should communicate with his doctor in a weekly basis. The foods should content less saturated and trans-fat. The foods should be prepared with low sodium because the patient has pitting edema. Eventually it can be dangerous if the patient consumes too much of sodium. Proper medications should be given to lower the heart rate and blood pressure. Electrolytes should be balanced in the body because it will help to manage the acid-base balance in the body and electrolytes helps the nerves and the muscles to work properly. Diuretics or water pills can be administered as a medicine in the patient body to remove the sodium and excess fluid from the body. The patient should be provided with enough rest and sleep (Kosiborod et al., 2017).
Methods for providing education
The patient along with his wife can be taught with respect to illness. The historical condition of the wife should be considered at first. The rationale is that cardiomyopathy and the congestive heart failure are identified with hypertension and therefore the history of the spouse relating about hypertension would be valuable in the instruction procedure. Heart failure teaching can be an option to the wife of the patient. Alongside, the patient and the wife can watch a video regarding cardiomyopathy because through the video they will understand about the effects of the disease and what necessary precautions can be taken in the upcoming future. Proper reviewing of the condition with the patient and wife is required to understand about the conditions systematically.
Teaching plan
Nurses should teach the patient that congestive heart failure implies that the heart is not drawing enough blood from the rest of the body. However, this does not imply that the heart has quit working. Heart failure begins gradually and can get poorer after some time. Nurses should teach the patient that congestive heart failure may include breath problems or shortening of breath during sleep or while taking rest. The patient can often feel anxious or restless. The lungs may be filled up with fluids and eventually building up of excess fluid in the body tissue can cause swelling in the abdomen, legs or feet. This can cause weight gain (Mehralian et al., 2014). These are the teachings which can be provided by the nurses to the patient.
