NUST08011 Nursing Care And Decision Making
Question:
Objective:
Answer:
Objective
1) to improve “take charge” responsibilities-
I am approachable to my colleagues and families. I offer genuine encouragement and support during my shift. To be available and approachable to other team members- I disagree with the approach of being approachable and available to the team members because taking charge means handling the critical cases. It is important to note that before taking charge it is necessary to explain all the details and the procedures of the work to all another team member. Thus, later on handling such issues become trivial and this is distracting for the one who is leading.
While in charge I distribute job amongst the team, plus read the diary prepared for meditation, completing paperwork, risk assessment, care planning and patient progress note. Prompt acting is necessary only for the issues that demand with the critical mental health nursing cases.
Documenting and recording promptly is a job that can be done by the attending staffs and this becomes an extra burden for the nurse who is taking charge.
2) Improve communication and interpersonal skills with the colleagues-
I do communicate perfectly with my colleagues, even though I had a disagreement I am aware of my interpersonal skills when I interact with others. Expressing information in a clear and complete manner both in verbally and writing can take up a lot of time. The medical staffs and nurses are trained enough for all the terms that are used in mental health scenario (Garzonis et al. 2015).
I am open to suggestions listening to others suggestions and I can see from other perspective and I am willing to learn. When I am responding to a distressing patient, I assess the situation and communicate, on the other hand there are times when things don’t go to plan. However, I act upon it appropriately unfortunately I am not perfect. Within the nursing setting it is always necessary to follow the standard operating procedure and thus the scope of open-mindedness and the evaluation of the suggestions is very little (Jaiteh et al. 2017).
In a nursing setting, there very little scope to care for the emotions of the other nurses and the staffs. The only thing that matters is the health of the patients.
