NUR 469 Informatics And Quality
Question:
Answer:
Application of nursing informatics in professional nursing practice:
Nursing informatics can support nursing practice in the following areas :
Clinical practice: In clinical practice, nursing informatics can enhance the quality of nursing care and improve the documentation process. For example, with many health informatics tools available now, it is easier for nurse to track changes in patient status and use the knowledge obtained to formalize a plan of action.
Administration: In the area of nursing administration, nursing informatics technology can assist nurse leader to engage in data processing and management process to support delivery of high quality care. For example, with the usage of electronic documentation process, it is easier for nurse leaders to be aware of recent trends and information related to patient care (Yang et al., 2014)
Education: Nursing informatics can be applied in nursing education to increase clinical knowledge of nurses and support them to engage in evidence based nursing practice. Knowledge related to clinical skills becomes more accessible for nurse with the use of health informatics.
Research: Nursing informatics tools like electronic health record and other relevant tools has been successfully applied in research to promote safety in care and suggest ways to reduce medical errors (Darvish et al., 2015).
Significance of nursing informatics:
For me, one of the biggest significance of nursing practice is the manner in which it has reduced workload burden and made work process more efficient and timely. Integration of nursing informatics in professional nursing practice has improved the quality of care outcome and increase clinical performance of nurses (Darvish et al., 2015).
