A five year plan Concept Map for Nursing Profession
HIV/AIDS has experienced an increased perception as a nursing disease. In many eyes, Nurses can make a significant contribution towards prevention as well as treatment of HIV/AIDS. Inspired, I as a prospective nurse aim to pursue nursing as my grad job after graduation. I, therefore, see the importance of picturing my nursing profession for the next five years. This has precipitated the need to construct a five-year concept map shown in figure 1 for my future endeavors as a prospective nurse.
As illustrated in the concept map, I am a student at the University of Sydney seeking to exercise my profession in the field of nursing after my graduation which is scheduled on December 2018. Due to the increased rate of transmission of HIV/AIDS in the current generation, it is essential to educate about HIV/AIDS (Fauci, & Marston, 2015). As such, my main role as a nurse in this field will be to educate them on the AIDS preventive measures. Some of the major areas I will focus on include but not limited to safe lifestyle and reducing the risk of contracting HIV virus. For a safe lifestyle, I aim to educating individuals on abstinence from sexual activities, abstinence from the use of IV drugs and many other programs that will ensure a safe lifestyle of individuals in the community (Wagman et al. 2015; Collins, Kugler, & Gwadz, 2016). To reduce the risk of contracting HIV/AIDS, I will play the role of educating individuals on the use of condoms during sexual activities, avoid sharing of sharp objects including needles among other areas that will help in reducing the risk of contracting HIV/AIDS, I will also encourage individuals to go for HIV test annually, at minimum.
In order to realize the dreams, I have to be first of all get registered as a certified nurse after graduating from the University of Sydney. I can also take part in the accredited nursing programs including masters and even doctorate on nursing program as I Plan to do immediately after graduating from the University of Sydney.
Being part of a professional organization is a win-win situation for me in my future career, this is due to the reason that networking with my fellow professionals will be a major initiative for learning a lot in my field. As such, I, therefore, seek to join the Australian Primary Health Care Nurses Association APNA as shown in the concept map. This is one of the top-notch professional body of nurses working in a primary health care. Their main objective is to optimize the role of nurses in patient-centered care and many others (APNA, 2018). The registration requirements are clinical skills and practice as well as professional practice as shown in the concept map among others. This professional organization will help me in executing my duties as an educator and reduce the transmission of the HIV/AIDS.
